FILM REVIEWS

Through the years most vampire movies are all the same: Some evil vampires killing people and some slayers or other kind of heroes trying to stop them. The porblem with most of those films is that don't have a good story and the action isn't always very good. This film changed that.

A woman was bitten by a vampire and a short time after that she gave birth to a son, but he is born with vampires' powers (faster, stronger) but thanks to his mom he doesn't have the vampires' weaknesses, such as dying with daylight. As he grows up he becomes Blade (Wesley Snipes), a vampire hunter.

The vampires have been taking a lot of people lately, they even have humans working for them, with the promise that one day they'll be converted into vampires. They are expecting the arrival of 'La Magra', but they need Blade's special blood to make everything work, so Frost (Stephen Dorff), a vampire, tries to catch Blade and become more powerful with 'La Magra'.

Reading this might lead you to think this is the typical boring storyline, But I assure you it's not. There is more to the plot than this; through the film they talk about 'La Magra' and make it sound very realistic, and they show all these interesting vampire books and a vampire bible. The not-very-experienced director Norrington (only 1 film before this) did a good job, and so did Goyer with his writing.

The film doesn't make an abuse of the fight scenes, this isn't 120 minutes of vampire-killing, but I must say once you watch the film you're gonna want some more of those scenes! Snipes was pretty good as Blade, and his fighting technique with his weapons and his sword is pretty stylish, I liked it. The best scenes are the first and the last, I loved them. Dorff makes a pretty good vampire, and just for the record, I've heard several female comments saying Dorff looks damn good in this film, so even the ladies might wanna take a look at this one. There is some blood and gore, but that's not unusual in a vampire flick. The soundtrack is also pretty good, it makes the fighting scenes pretty exiting. For a vampire film it's pretty good, that's why I gave it an 8; an overall rating might be a bit inferior, but that doesn't matter, it's an entertaining for those who know what to expect.
